Just as the unnamed Norwegian warrior stood firm on the narrow Stamford Bridge in 1066, just as the Spartans and their Peloponnesian comrades stood firm in the narrows of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., just as the Swiss Guard stood firm on the steps of St. Peter's Basilica in 1527, and as the few proud Texans stood firm on the ramshackle defenses of the Alamo in 1836, in times of danger there is always the need for men to be willing to stand firm against an seemingly unstoppable wave of destruction.

In a world marked by a loss of moral standards and a lack of virtues, the role of individuals in shaping the character of society cannot be overstated. Men, in their proper role within families and communities, have a unique opportunity to contribute to the betterment of society through the cultivation of virtuous character.  The need for introspection and a reevaluation of core values has never been more pressing.  After all, the characteristics of any society are simply the sum total of the character traits of its members.
